Sustainable Planning and Design in the Ithaca City-Region
This presentation will feature planning initiatives and development projects that span Ithaca’s downtown, waterfront and Cayuga Lake watershed. These projects focus on increasing downtown density, enhancement of walking, biking and new modes of transportation, and protecting water quality in Cayuga Lake and interconnected streams and creeks. Presenters will focus on how the principles and practices highlighted at INLS play a role in these rural and urban projects.
About Scott Whitham, Rick Manning, and Andy Zepp
Scott Whitham, ASLA, is the Principal of Whitham Planning & Design and leads his office in the planning, design and approvals of urban design and development projects in Ithaca and Upstate New York. Scott will present some of his office’s recent work in the City of Ithaca.
Rick Manning, ASLA, is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Friends of Stewart Park and will discuss his work on planning and designing the Cayuga Waterfront Trail during the past twenty years in Ithaca.
Andy Zepp, Executive Director and Founder of the Finger Lakes Land Trust, will present an overview of FLLT’s new 5 Point Water Quality Initiative with a focus on their new Toxic Algae in the Finger Lakes program.
