12th Annual Ithaca Native Landscape Symposium

March 13th-14th, 2020

Cinemapolis Theater, Downtown Ithaca

Vision 2020 - Bringing the Future into Focus

We are thrilled to have another roster of well-informed and passionate presenters sharing their expertise at INLS 2020. As usual, we look to balance theory and practice, so the work we all do is informed by science, and is more likely to succeed. The conference will begin with a special presentation on THURSDAY EVENING at Cinemapolis theater (same site as INLS), by Cornell Professor of Landscape Architecture Kathryn Gleason, titled The Public Parks of Ancient Rome. This presentation is open to the community as well as INLS attendees and is a benefit for Friends of Stewart Park in Ithaca. Donations are welcome for the fundraiser.
Ithaca is fortunate to be home to Cornell University, a leading research institute on climate change, sustainable agriculture and ornithology. Over the course of both days of INLS 2020, Cornell faculty and staff will share the following three presentations:
  • Sustainable Landscape Management in a Changing Climate
  • What’s New in the UN’s Special Report on 1.5C Warming?
  • Birds in Crisis: A Message from the Natural World
These presentations will be complemented by a series of project-based presentations that include Riparian Buffer Implementation Realities; What Climate Resiliency Means to Our Future; Planting a Gathering Place in Tulsa; Development and Preservation in the Ithaca City & Region; Native Plants: The Currency of Our Trade; Ecosystems, Community and the Interdependence of Plants and Animals; Nature-Based Practices and Interpretation at Cornell Botanic Gardens; and, Designing an Earth-Friendly Landscape.
INLS brings together scientists, landscape architects, horticulturists, land managers, educators, environmentalists, municipal employees, master gardeners, home gardeners and more. If you are eager to learn more about our regional natural landscapes, and how to preserve and use native plants in parks, gardens, and natural areas to create beautiful and sustainable landscapes--then you've found the right place. We have a dedicated group of attendees that are inspired, inspiring, well-informed and keep coming back to Ithaca to learn and have a good time before spring returns.
If you haven't attended INLS, please join us. You won't regret it!
